waldschlösschen bridge, dresden

in 1997 the competition entry for a bridge across the river elbe in dresden aimed to provide a bridge with a clear presence that would add to while not distracting from the dresden silhouette.
pedestrian walkways and cycle routes follow the profile of the bottom section of the three dimensional truss, while motorised traffic travels on top. the aim was to provide a route for pedestrians while protecting them from car emissions.
the profile of the bridge allows unimpeded views of the "canaletto" skyline of dresden.
