tramline scape, leipzig

the jahnallee forms the axis between the main railway station and the stadium for the 2006 world cup in leipzig. it is joined part of its way by the waters of the "elstermühlgraben" which, having been buried for decades, are being brought back to the surface. tagebau architekten + designer were commissioned to coordinate positions of trees and tram masts and integrate the tramline into the overall streetscape. a continuous band of white asphalt clearly separates the tramline from the roadways while keeping it at the same level. for the tram stops raised boards are placed on either side of this band. jahnallee was also the pilot project for the power line masts designed by tagebau for the leipzig tram system.
