Primary School Leipzig

The school designed as a competition entry in a limited competition with 23 competitors is situated in the "Gründerzeit"-quarter of the Leipzig Südvorstadt. All classrooms and dayschool rooms are orientated South and hav access to a continuous terrace in front of them. The terraces are linked by an open staircase mirroring the central stair in the main hall of the building. They thus have access to the playground and via a bridge to the landscaped roof of the changing rooms of the sportshall.

School and sportshall frame the playground from North and South. The other to sides - facing busy roads - are lined by the garden walls of the playground.

The sportshall and the athletic fields can be used by third parties without having access to the school proper.

The main entrance to the school is from the North and the quiet Scharnhorststraße.The overhand of the building protects the entrance zone with its bicycle parking. The few parents bringing their children by car can dorp them off directly in front of the main entrance.

The terraced southern façade is protected against excessive solar gain by bands of climbing plants that extend the green bands of the playground up the building.

Die Sporthalle und die südlich von der Schule liegenden Sportanlagen können so komplett durch Dritte genutzt werden, die keinerlei Zugang zu dem Schulgelände haben müssen.Der Haupteingang zur Schule erfolgt von Norden, geschützt durch den im 2. und 3. Obergeschoss überhängenden Baukörper der Schule und mit einem Durchblick durch das Gebäude auf den besonnten Pausenhof. Die verkehrsberuhigte Scharnhorststraße dient als Vorfahrt für die Kinder, die mit dem Auto gebracht werden.Die Verschattung der Südfassade und der als Klassenraumerweiterungen nutzbaren Terrassenbereich erfolgt zum Teil durch Pergolenbänder, die die Pflanzflächen des Schulhofes über die Terrassenanlage als grüne Bänder weiterführen.
