the technologies developed by the leipzig "centre for book preservation" for the industrial preservation of libraries were to be used in the brauweiler abbey to treat the archives of the rhine area.
tagebau architekten + designer and prof. ingo-andreas wolf developed an unashamedly modern building that integrates happily in its historical surroundings. the external skin consists of cast glass with translucent insulation into which heating and cooling can be integrated. the system uses an underground store to balance seasonal heating and cooling needs.
the working places in the main building are handicapped accessible.
