Library of the Folkwang university, Essen

The reading room and the reference area of the library extend from the new entrance and seminar building underneath the university's newly organised central courtyard.

Stone ribbons wrap around the building and form a carpet on the court yard. Perforations in the carpet let light into the library and form irregular windows in the facades. The soffit of the library space reflects the pattern and the material of the stone ribbons.

The floor of the court becomes the ceiling of the library - the sky above the court is reflected in the floor of the library...
